About us

VPNpro is an independent cybersecurity research and testing platform. Our VPN experts review VPN services, analyze privacy tools, and monitor internet restrictions worldwide.

Our work is based on hands-on testing, technical analysis, and continuous monitoring of digital privacy risks. We test VPNs and related technologies in real-world scenarios to understand how they perform across different networks, locations, and use cases, such as streaming, censorship bypass, and data protection.

We also publish video content on YouTube with testing insights and practical guidance on cybersecurity tools and online safety.

VPNpro operates globally, covering services and privacy issues that impact users in many regions, legal systems, and internet infrastructures. We are working independently and transparently, following our Review and Research Guidelines.

Our expertise

VPNpro supports its reviews with hands-on testing, structured evaluations, and ongoing analysis of VPN services and privacy tools. Since 2018, VPNpro’s research team has conducted hands-on cybersecurity testing and analysis, including testing 207+ VPN services and other privacy tools, performing 250+ documented speed tests, and running evaluations in 11 countries worldwide, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Germany, France, Japan, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, and Singapore.

Our team continuously verifies performance changes, updates reviews, and validates new features using formal testing datasets. This approach allows us to evaluate VPN services and security tools based on observed performance rather than provider claims.

Our current research and content scope includes:

  • 25+ VPNpro experts
  • 10,000+ hours of research
  • 2309+ products recommended
  • 207+ product reviews published

How we test VPN services

All VPNpro reviews are based on hands-on testing using real devices and network environments. Testing is performed in multiple regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and across Europe, as well as additional global locations. Our testing focuses on the following areas:

  • Speed testing. VPN speeds are measured by comparing download/upload speeds and latency before and after connecting to a VPN server. A formula calculates the percentage of speed retained, with 75% or above considered acceptable. Tests are run via Speedtest by Ookla, sometimes across multiple server locations (Australia, Canada, Germany, France, Japan, the Netherlands, Sweden, Singapore, the UK, and the US).
  • IP, DNS, and WebRTC leak testing / kill switch. Leaks are checked using ipleak.net and dnsleaktest.com with protections enabled. The kill switch is stress-tested by forcibly terminating the VPN process to see if the connection drops or data leaks. Results are pass/fail, based on whether VPN leaks.
  • Geo-restricted content. Testers connect to servers in various countries to see which streaming platforms (Netflix libraries, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, DAZN, Amazon Prime, etc.) the VPN can unblock. Performance is judged by the volume of content accessible, though there's no fixed scoring scale.
  • User experience. The VPN app's interface is evaluated for ease of use, features accessibility, clarity of settings, and the presence of a map view.

All testing is conducted manually by our research team using these devices:

  • Virtualbox VM with Windows 11 (20 GB RAM and 4 CPU cores) on Lenovo ThinkStation (AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 3945WX 12-core processor, 3.99 GHz, 64 GB RAM, 3TB SSD, Windows 11)
  • MacBook Pro M2 16 GB RAM, 500 GB storage, macOS Tahoe 26.2, running on a virtual machine with 4GB allocated RAM and 64 GB storage.
  • Google Pixel 9, 128 GB storage, 12 GB RAM, with Google Tensor G4 chip, running on Android 16.
  • iPhone 12, running iOS 18, with 64 GB of storage and an Apple A14 Bionic chip.
